Rick Martin's broad career experience includes eighteen years in construction, three years in the financial services sector, two years as a professional photographer (currently hobbyist), nineteen years as a Workplace Health and Safety professional. Most recently serves as Special Projects Coordinator and Owner of NexxLev Productions a Calgary based Audio Video production house.

As a WH & S professional Rick received a great sense of fulfillment knowing that his efforts may have saved workers from needless injuries.  This is one of the hardest fields to be a teacher in where nobody wants to be told they aren’t doing things safely.  It has tempered and forged Rick’s teaching styles to engage students in ways that open the doorway to new understanding and compassion.

Rick grew up in a nuclear family, the youngest of six.  In contrast to his up bring he has lived through the experiences of two different types of Stepfamily over the 30 plus years of his married life. Today he is graced with many wonderful grandchildren.

Throughout this time Rick was faced with more issues then he ever imagined could exist within the different family units he was a part of. Seeking out whatever help he could to survive through this, he turned to the local social systems and found more pain and confusion then help.  Finally in 2001, he met a couple in his area that turned things around for him and his family at the time.

Eight years later Rick has brought together for you, from all of his different journeys on the path of understanding of what Stepfamily is all about, the information most needed to help today’s Stepfamilies become successful.

Rick now feels it is time to share his wealth of experience as a guide to help others find a better way.  Not from a place of higher education but from a place of living it and working through the issues that do not exists in a nuclear family.

With his passion for life and learning, Rick has taken the best out of all that he has learned and has brought it together to help you, your family and/or your friends to begin to understand how to master life in a Stepfamily.

The mission, vision, and goals for Today’s Family Training are aligned with Rick’s personal values and goals – to be of service for others (as a guide).  Rick brings his passion and personal integrity into this work.

His personal mission statement is:

To brighten the path for those seeking to move forward on their journey “

By placing his focus on the ones that need this help the most (our children of today living in a Stepfamily) his vision is to work together with those in Stepfamily at making changes together, that will last for generations to come.

We are beginning a culture change that may still be years down the road before we see the changes but it is a start in the right direction.  Shifting the understanding of the family dynamics we live in today to aid in building a better foundation for the children of tomorrow to build their relationships on; is Today’s Family Trainings main objective.

Rick invites you to be on the leading edge of the next evolution of the family structure.

Throughout the years, Rick placed a high priority on personal development and has traveled many different paths open to new ways of learning and growing.
